Workshop Overview: More people have had training in evidence-based treatments (EBTs) for individuals with eating disorders (e.g., CBT-E, MANTRA and SSCM) and more clinicians are seeking out the Eating Disorders Credential. EBTs for eating disorders have been shown to be helpful in recovery, but therapy is rarely smooth sailing. Sitting through a 2-day training is one thing – but applying our EBT with clients is another matter altogether.
We learn the techniques of EBTs – but how do we apply them? EBTs provide a structure for us and clients – and what occurs within that structure is therapy. This workshop is for mental health clinicians providing individual eating disorders treatment (to adolescents and/or adults) who want:
The presentation will include some didactic teaching and videos, but the content of the day will focus mainly on issues that have been generated by participants before the workshop. There will be demonstrations by the presenter, role plays, brainstorming, small groups and ample opportunity for discussion and reflection. |
Dr Anthea Fursland, PhD, FAED. With over 40 years’ experience, in the UK, USA & Australia, Anthea was Director of CCI and WAEDOCS, co-authored a web-based self-help resource and many peer-reviewed papers. She has trained and supervised clinicians throughout Australia in CBT-E. She currently offers psychological assessment, training and consultation. Anthea serves on the Steering Committee of the National Eating Disorders Collaboration and is a member of the Australian Government Department of Health Eating Disorders Technical Advisory Group. She is Past-president of ANZAED, a Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED), recipient of the 2016 ANZAED Lifetime Achievement Award, and the 2019 AED Outstanding Clinician Award. |
